Rainford Inter v Hesketh Colts.

The game today was played on a late beautiful summer day. The atmosphere was carnival like with spirits high but the nerves were still there. Going into the game we didn't know what to expect with being a new team for this season.

The match started at a ferocious pace with both teams looking to gain the advantage. The play went from one end to the other with neither team managing to get the breakthrough.

With the Rainford keeper distracted by a stray ball from another pitch the skillful Amelia saw the opportunity to lob the keeper from about 30 yards out which she did with ease making it 1-0 to Colts.

After making a couple of substitutions Rainford got back into the game as the defence adjusted to the change. A through ball caught the defence flat footed and a nice slot into the corner made it 1-1.

Colts didn't let the equaliser affect them as they went up the other end and threatened the Rainford goal on numerous occasions before eventually scoring 2 more goals from Amelia before the half-time whistle.

After the break the girls started were they left off and dominated their opponents. The defence was solid with Ava, Lily, Lyla and Eve rotating. Goals from Amelia and Sophie secured the teams first win on the season. Player of the match was Ava who gave a demonstration of how to defend. Very good start to a new season for Colts Girls.
